The Lionhearts took a step closer to the semi-finals of the World Series of Boxing tonight with a 4-1 victory over the Mexico Guerreros.
Andrew Selby, Joe Ward, John Joe Nevin and Joe Joyce sealed the win to continue the Lionhearts strong home form. It means the British team will go through to the last-four of the competition if they win two bouts in next week’s second leg when Sean McGoldrick, Sam Maxwell, Kaupo Arro, Babacar Kamara and Uaine Fa will box for the Lionhearts in Mexico City.
The British Lionhearts v Ukraine Otamans match lived up to the hype. 5 sensational bouts saw the Otamans eventually prevail 3:2 following an epic tussle between Olympic Champion Usyk and Lionhearts’ WSB revelation Joe Joyce. Wins for the undefeated Selby and teenage sensation Joe Ward could not prevent the Otamans pinching the win. Double Olympic Campion and P4P king Lomachenko also lived up to his star billing and Evans suffered a shock loss to Mytrofanov. Don’t miss the action on the 22nd March against.
The Lionhearts travelled to Germany on Sat 23rd Feb. Spearheaded by Commonwealth Gold medallist Sean McGoldrick with his impressive 3 wins from 3 away fixtures the Lionhearts could not conquer the Eagles but battled hard to a 0:5 loss.
London Olympian Josh Taylor, Aston Brown, Lawrence Osueke and Mohammed Arjaoui all boxed and despite the score line it was another competitive match.
